Hallelujah. It sounds as though viewers will have a bigger say in who makes the American Idol finals than originally thought.

Multiple spoiler sites with inside information on tonight’s show — which was filmed Tuesday — report that the judges will select four of the finalists, not eight as previously believed.

That means 10 singers will perform tonight and fan voting will determine which six of them advance to Thursday’s Top 10 show.

That’s too late to reverse the damage done by the judges last week, when Tristan McIntosh, Thomas Stringfellow, Lee Jean and Gina Isabella got passes into the Top 14 round that should have gone to someone else — Shelbie Z., first and foremost.

But it minimizes the likelihood that the judges will be allowed to repeat that mistake this week. As shaky as that quartet was last week, how could the judges possibly advance them over some of the more polished performers who remain?

Well, this is American Idol. And the judges love very young singers. So anything could happen.

If I’m choosing a Top 4 to advance, my selections would be La’Porsha Renae, MacKenzie Bourg, Trent Harmon and Sonika Vaid.

And if any of that four don’t advance automatically, they should absolutely be voted through.

If I’m filling out a Top 10, that group would also have to include Dalton Rapattoni, Olivia Rox, Jeneve Rose Mitchell and Avalon Young.

At some point tonight, I’ll be supplying song by song grades for the 10 performances, but it won’t be live. Watch out for those later.
