And within an hour, it was already number three on the iTunes album chart, trailing only new albums from DJ Khaled and Jake Owen.
The album is called “The Definition Of …” And if there’s any doubt of the meaning behind that, Fantasia cleared it up on her Facebook page.
“After 12 years in the music industry it was time to take control of my destiny,” she wrote there. “I fought to create an album that truly embodies my love of music from all genres.
“My core will always be soul music, but I also grew up listening to gospel, rock, jazz and country. Michael Jackson, Tina Turner, Prince, James Brown, Elton John and so many more -– I pull my inspiration from these legends and their timeless catalogs.
“I poured my heart into this album and I’m so happy to share this moment with my fans aka FAMILY. The industry does not DEFINE me .. I DEFINE ME.”
You’ll recall that Fantasia debuted the country track on the album — “Ugly” — during the Season 15 finale. At least three other tracks on the album — “No Time for It,” “So Blue” and the fabulous “Sleeping with the One I Love” — had already been released before the 11-track album dropped.
