The Voice season finale delivered mixed news in terms of ratings.

The two-hour finale won the night with a rating of 1.2 among 19-49 year olds and 8.64 million viewers, according to TV By the Numbers.

That was an improvement over the spring, when the finale drew a 1.1 rating and 7.42 million viewers.

But it was also marked a decline from last fall’s rating of 1.7 and 9.89 million viewers.

The same could be said for the Season 17 ratings overall.

They never sank to the record lows — 0.9 among 19 to 49 year olds — of the abysmal Season 16, when a tattered format made The Voice barely worth watching.

But they also never rose above 1.7. Season 16 produced a rating of at least 2.0 on four occasions.

Nevertheless, the show will inevitably crown a Season 18 champ. Just five short months from now.
