Caleb, Joshua and Bekah Liechty were the very first contestants fans met on Season 21 of The Voice.

And when Tuesday’s finale ended, they were the last contestants standing, enjoying a confetti shower center stage as the latest winners of The Voice.

In the process, Girl Named Tom made history, becoming the first non-soloists to win the show.

It marked the end of a magical 24 hours for Caleb, Joshua and Bekah, who hit number one on the Apple Music charts with their Monday night cover of Fleetwood Mac’s “The Chain.”

In fact, according to Carson Daly, they made another bit of Voice history this week: becoming the first contestants to have four songs chart in the Top 10 on Apple Music at the same time.

That happened because the other song they performed Monday night, “Baby Now That I Found You,” landed at number nine on the chart.

Two songs Girl Named Tom previously performed on the show, “The River” and “Dust in the Wind,” fell in between.

No other finalist cracked the Top 10 after Monday’s show, with Wendy Moten of Team Blake coming the closest at number 12 with “Over the Rainbow.”

She wound up finishing second among the Season 21 finalists, followed by Paris Winningham of Team Blake, Hailey Mia of Team Kelly and Jershika Maple of Team Legend in that order.

The funny thing is, Girl Named Tom — so named because Joshua called Bekah “Thomas” when she was young — wasn’t supposed to be performing together at this point.

Caleb, 26, graduated from Goshen College in 2018. Joshua, 24, did the same a year later. Bekah, 21, was supposed to attend Goshen too.

The sibling band started with a 2018 performance at a cousin’s wedding and was supposed to be a one-year, gap-year experience.

In a 2020 interview with The Record, Goshen College’s student newspaper, the siblings said they’d be going their separate ways at the end of a 27-city, 67-date tour.

Instead, they wound up on The Voice.

During the pandemic, a former vocal instructor suggested they audition.

Bekah took the blame for the rest in an interview with Voice Views this spring.

“I have had a lifelong, hidden dream of making it to the big stage with my voice,” she admitted.

“When we started our band, I never felt right about going off and auditioning by myself. But, after seeing the joy our music brought people in the small venues we were playing, I had an increasing desire to get our music to more ears.

“At the same time, I became aware that what our trio had together was far beyond anything I could do myself. So, with this newfound confidence, I somehow convinced the boys to audition with me and see what happens!”

What happened was a four-chair turn blind audition and decision to join Team Kelly Clarkson.

What happened was an amazing run on The Voice that included five straight weeks of chart-topping performances among the show’s contestants.

And, just like that, three aspiring physicians — that was the pre-Voice plan — will likely be making music as Girl Named Tom for some time to come.

Editor’s Note: Girl Named Tom already has non-show music on streaming sites, including a five-song 2019 EP called “Another World,” a single called “Backup Plan” and a 2021 cover album called “Hits from the Road.” The latter includes two songs they performed on the show, “Helplessly Hoping” and “Wichita Lineman.”
