Not surprisingly, American Idol’s Charlotte episode brought out plenty of aspiring country singers.

Among the ones earning a golden ticket to Hollywood was Jimmy Smith.

The 25-year-old from Waynesboro, Tenn., showed up on the Idol stage saying Keith Urban is one of his inspirations.

His version of Rascal Flatts’ “God Bless the Broken Road” drew praise from Nicki Minaj, Keith and Mariah Carey, who called him “something special.”
