So who will fall prey to country night on American Idol?
Will it be Michael Sarver, whose performance got panned by judges and who performed nearly two hours before anyone could vote?
Will it be Megan Joy, whose subpar performance Tuesday night was at least partly flu-affected?
Or will it be Scott MacIntyre, who turned in a mediocre performance for the second straight week?
This much is sure. Some Idol contestants are safe. I think you can lump Danny Gokey, Lil Rounds and Adam Lambert in that group … Adam in spite of one of the oddest performances in Idol history.
And some Idols who looked vunerable just a week ago — Matt Giraud and especially Anoop Desai — suddenly look like they might hang around a while.
Fifty-five minutes or so from now, we’ll find out who’s going home.
Ryan says the results could be shocking. Well, isn’t that always the case?
Here come some results. Ryan just reminded us safe contestants make the American Idol Summer Tour.
Danny Gokey, predictably, is safe.
Lil Rounds, predictably, is safe.
Anoop Desai, predictably after last night’s performance, is also safe.
Allison Iraheta and Michael Sarver are up together, which means one is in the bottom three.
OK, turns out both are in the bottom three.
More results coming.
Scott MacIntyre is safe. Hmm. He was my pick to go home tonight.
Megan Joy’s turn to hear her fate. She, too, is safe.
Matt Giraud is up next. He’s safe, not surprising after last night’s effort.
Kris Allen, who went guitar-less last night, has also made the top 10.
That leaves Alexis Grace and Adam Lambert … yikes, don’t want to see either go home. OK, Adam is safe; Alexis is heading to the bottom three.
And, now, Ryan sends Allison back to safey, which leaves Michael Sarver and Alexis Grace as the bottom two.
And they’ll have to wait a while to learn their fate, because we still have to hear a duet from Carrie Underwood and Randy Travis and, besides, it’s only 9:41 p.m.
OK, Carrie and Randy are done. Simon said the judges might consider using their save for one of the contestants … I’m guessing that would be Alexis.
And we just got to see a very cute Carrie Underwood commercial.
Here come the final results. Michael Sarver is safe.
That means Alexis Grace’s fate is in the hands of the judges.
And the judges won’t save Alexis Grace.
