Idol winners at the Teen Choice Awards

David Archuleta probably won't have much time for surfing with a new single out and a new album on the way, but he'll have a surfboard for when the occasion calls for one. He was named favorite American Idol alum at the Teen Choice Awards. (AP Photo)So, the Teen Choice awards are in, and some of them might seem a little surprising at first.

Take the category of favorite former American Idol, for instance. Three of the five nominees have had phenomenal CD sales success. Those would include Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson and Chris Daughtry.

A fourth nominee — Jennifer Hudson — has a Grammy and an Academy Award to her credit.

The winner: Season seven runnerup David Archuleta, who’s surely enjoyed his share of successes since Idol, but who can’t match the aforementioned big three in terms of chart performance.

But, remember, the award was based on fan voting. And David’s still a teen — a teen with a great deal of appeal to younger fans.

No wonder David’s fans were also up for an award.

In the favorite reality competition show category, top honors went to American Idol, in spite of a generally lackluster season nine and falling ratings.

Surprisingly? Well, it is still the most watched show on TV.

Other Idol winners included Lee DeWyze for male reality/variety star and Ryan Seacrest in the TV personality category (Simon Cowell was also nominated).

Ellen DeGeneres earned two Teen Choice Awards, one for Choice Twit (think Twitter) and one Choice Comedian. (AP Photo)And former Idol judge Ellen DeGeneres walked away with two awards, one for choice comedian and one for choice twit (think Twitter; Ryan was also nominated).

Here’s a rundown of the other categories in which Idols were nominated, with the winners named at the end.
