Each member of the American Idol Top 5 will get three chances to prove they’re finals worthy Sunday night.

American Idol has announced the themes for this week’s 8 p.m. Top 5 show.

They include …

* A song from the Elton John collection;

* A special dedication on Mother’s Day;

* A song selected by Idol mentor Bobby Bones.

Again, I’m not a fan of single artist themes, and this week’s seems a bit of a stretch since the most Elton John-like contestants in Season 17 have been eliminated.

Then again, if you’re goal is to promote the “Rocketman” film — apparently the Top 5 will attend the premiere — I supposed the timing is right.

I am eager to see what songs Bobby picks for the contestants. He’s offered up some astute observations over the course of the competition.

And I love the fact that Idol is sending every member of the Top 5 to the stage three times.

While The Voice makes no adjustments to its semifinals show in spite of a mangled Season 16 format, American Idol continues to be the show to watch if you want to see the contestants perform.

The Idol Top 5 includes Laine Hardy, Allejandro Aranda, Madison VanDenburg, Laci Kaye Booth and Wade Cota.
