Idols on ‘Good Morning America,’ area shows still on

0

The season nine American Idols will get some much-needed publicity Friday morning when they appear on ABC’s Good Morning America.

They’ll be featured as part of the show’s summer concert series. The show starts at 8:30 a.m.

Season nine champ Lee DeWyze and Crystal Bowersox are scheduled to perform.

Not so sure about the other eight touring Idols, who include Casey James, Michael Lynche, Aaron Kelly, Siobhan Magnus, Katie Stevens, Tim Urban, Didi Benami and Andrew Garcia.

Depending on the source, six, seven or eight stops on the Idol summer tour have been cancelled because of lackluster ticket sales.

And the tour now has only one date scheduled past the end of August — a Sept. 14 show in Pittsburgh. All the other September dates have been cancelled.

But have no fear, local Idol fans. All of the nearby dates are still on, including Sunday night in Philadelphia, Thursday in Hershey, July 23 in the D.C. area and July 24 in Baltimore. You’ll find ticket information under the Idols in the area section off to your right.

Lots of folks are pointing to declining ratings and the lack of an Adam Lambert type performer as the reason behind the tour problems.

But Entertainment Weekly labeled this the “Summer of Sadness” in a recent online post, noting that tours featuring Christina Aguilera, the Eagles and the Jonas Brothers have also run into problems selling tickets.

American Idol's season nine summer tour stops in Philadelphia Sunday and in Hershey on Thursday.
