Wow, after reading the only review I could find of Blake Lewis’ new CD, I was almost afraid to give it a listen.
That review, published on the Washington Post’s Express Night Out blog basically calls the album a career killer.
Hey, I’ve listened to it twice so far, and it’s not that bad.
OK, two listens is enough to convince me I never need to hear “Rebel Without a Cause” a third time. Talk about heartbreak on CD.
And “Superscratchavocalistic-turnatablelicious” — yep, that’s a song title — is a wasted minute. I don’t care that Blake Lewis is capable of making cartoon character noises, or whatever that’s supposed to be.
But at least three tunes on “Heartbreak on Vinyl” are downright infectious — the title track, “Rhythm of the Heart” and “Sad Song,” the first single.
Undecided on whether to get the album? You can listen to four songs, including “Afraid,” “Binary Love” and two of the three listed above on Blake’s Web site.
Meanwhile, check back Sunday for a review of the album.
