Addressing his elimination from American Idol, Isaiah Misailegalu made sure to thank the show for his nickname.

Isaiah, 17, from Las Vegas, Nevada, entered the competition with perhaps the least experience of anyone who made the Top 24.

But the judges were so impressed with his audition, that they dubbed him Samoan Silk at his audition, and the nickname stuck.

Personally, I had questions about whether Isaiah belonged in the Top 24 after a shaky performance during head-to head night in Hollywood. Especially since his partner sounded better and was told she wasn’t quite ready for Idol’s big stage.

But Isaiah delivered solid solo performances from that point on. He was eliminated Monday night when the show cut its cast from a Top 20 to a Top 14.

“This journey has been the most amazing experience in my life,” Isaiah wrote on social media.

“The BIGGEST thank you to @americanidol for gifting me the name Samoan Silk, allowing me to make a lot of life-long friendships, kickstart my music career and give me the best starting place I could ever ask for🙏.

“Thank you to The Village for showing an INSANE amount of love and support and to my beautiful family for being my backbone throughout this whole competition❤️. You guys will definitely be seeing more of me with the content and the music!”

Isaiah hasn’t released music yet. He told Idol he just started performing in public last year.
