Jennifer Hudson honored at Do Something Awards

Jennifer Hudson was among five celebrities honored with Do Something Awards by VH1 Wednesday night in Los Angeles.

Jennifer was honored for helping her sister Julia create an event called Hatch Day in Chicago, which provides free school supplies to thousands of youths in the Chicago area each year.

They did it to honor Jennifer’s nephew Julian, who was murdered at age 6 in 2008. Jennifer’s mother and brother also died in the incident. Julia was Julian’s mom.

Ne-Yo presented the award to Jennifer, who had teared up before she even reached the stage.

Said Jennifer: “It’s one thing to be a celebrity, but it means nothing if you can’t help somebody, if you can’t make a difference or change.”

The Julian King Foundation will hold the next Hatch Day in Chicago on Aug. 14.

Also honored during Wednesday’s event — Patrick Dempsey, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, LL Cool J and Kelly Osbourne.
