What’s better than having one former Idol contestant on a hit TV show?
Having two, of course.
Especially when the show is about a Broadway musical and calls for the newcomer to flash her considerable vocal skills.
I’m talking about “Smash,” of course, the show that has already revived the going-nowhere-fast musical career of Season 5 Idol runner-up Katharine McPhee.
If you haven’t heard, Jennifer Hudson will be joining the cast of “Smash” for multiple episodes during Season 2 of the show.
Her character’s name will be Veronica Moore, a Tony Award winning actress, which is a little ironic because that’s the one award Jennifer hasn’t won since her days on Idol.
We haven’t been told exactly how she will “impact” the lives of Karen (Katharine’s character) and her rival Ivy (Megan Hilty) on the show, but she’ll be present for the first episode when “Smash” returns in January.
While Jennifer’s career needs no reviving, she’s been quoted as calling the role on the show “a fabulous opportunity.”
Recently, she’s been present on the set of “Smash,” even accompanied by her 3-year-old son David Ortunga Jr. earlier this week.
You can head here and here and here to check out photos of Jennifer from the set.
