Joanna Pacitti reflects on her Idol time

Whatever happened to Joanna Pacitti, the Idol semifinalist from season eight who was booted from the competition before the semifinals began?

Well, Joanna is still pursuing a career in music judging from TV interviews she has done and a blog she posted on her MySpace page last week.

“I am doing what I love,” she writes, “that’s all that matters. I get to write songs everyday about my experiences. I really couldn’t ask for anything more.”

Joanna also writes about her Idol experience in her blog for the first time since her ouster, reflecting back on the one-year anniversary of trying out for the show.

“I am thankful for the time that I was part of the show, but I truly wish I was there longer — I think I deserved it,” she writes.

She makes it clear she received no special treatment during the audititon process. Here’s a link to the full blog.

American Idol never explained Joanna’s departure, except to say she was determined ineligible for the competition.

Apparently, though, she’s still bound by an Idol contract that prohibits her from releasing new material until three months after the show ends.

She refers to that contract during a May 6 TV interview, saying she’s working on a new CD. Asked when we can expect that, Joanna’s response: “We’re trying to get it done pretty fast, but Idol rules I can’t release anything until three months after the finale, so be expecting something probably August.”

Maybe that’s why the blog ends with this teaser: “Stay posted — more music and NEWS coming soon …”

In the meantime, you can check out full-lenth demos of two new Joanna songs on her MySpace page, as well as a snippet of a third new song.

And you can go here for a free listen to her 2006 album, “This Crazy Life,” released by Geffen Records. It’s certainly as good as the debut releases by several of the Idol finalists from years past. Here’s a review, too.

Here’s another interview Joanna did with a Fox affiliate, back in early May.
