Two former Idol contestants made news at the Dove Awards, an annual celebration of the best in Christian music.
The awards show was held last Tuesday in Nashville and televised Sunday night on Gospel Music Television.
Jordin, Idol’s season six winner, had the privilege of opening the show by singing a duet of “Human” with Natalie Grant, a co-host of the show.
This year marks the third straight in which Mandisa was nominated for at least one Dove Award.
The ninth-place finisher in season five, Mandisa was up for Female Vocalist of the Year, Best Pop/Contemporary Song of the Year (“My Deliverer”) and Best Short Form Music Video.
Female Vocalist of the Year honors went to Francesca Battistelli; “City On Our Knees” by Tonight won for Best Pop/Contemporary Song. For a complete list of winners and another photo of Jordin performing, go here.
Mandisa released her second post-Idol album, “Freedom,” last year. “My Deliverer” cracked the top 10 on the Christian singles chart.
Meanwhile, Jordin is heading this way.
On Sunday, she’ll perform 4 and 6:30 p.m. shows at Hersheypark as part of the venue’s Summer Concert Series.
The shows are free with the price of admission. Go here for more information.
Meanwhile, here’s a video of that show-opening performance by Jordin and Natalie.
