Former American Idol contestants were up for three Grammys Monday night, but failed to bring home a trophy for just the second time since 2006.
Carrie Underwood, proud owner of seven Grammys already, was nominated for best county solo performance. But the win went to Chris Stapleton for “Traveller.” He also took honors for best country album.
And Kelly Clarkson was up for two Grammys — best pop solo performance for “Heartbeat Song” and best pop album for “Piece by Piece.”
The pop album Grammy went to Taylor Swift for “1989;” the win for best solo pop performance went to Ed Sheeran for “Thinking Out Loud.”
Carrie still had a key role in the night’s festivities, sharing the stage with fellow country star Sam Hunt as they performed a mashup of her song “Heartbeat” and his “Take Your Time.
