Kelly Clarkson nabs MTV award nomination

MTV announced the nominees for its annual Music Video Awards show Tuesday morning, and the only former Idol contestant to nab a nomination was Kelly Clarkson.

Kelly is nominated in the Best Video with a Message category for “Dark Side” and reminding “us to be kind to one another since everybody struggles with something,” according to mtv.com.

Other nominees in the category include X Factor judge Demi Lovato for “Skyscraper,” Gym Class heroes for “The Fighter,” Lil Wayne for “How to Love,” Rise Against for “Ballad of Hollis Brown” and K’Naan and Nelly Furtado with “Is Anybody Out There?”

The MTV Video Music Awards will air Thursday, Sept. 6, at 8 p.m. So far, One Direction and Alicia Keys have been announced as performers.
