Kelly Clarkson up for VMA honors on Sunday

0

American Idol fans who watch the Video Music Awards on Sunday will have one former contestant to root for.

Kelly Clarkson’s “People Like Us” is nominated as best video with a social message.

Her competition for that award?

Beyonce’s “I Was Here,” Miquel’s “Candles in the Sun,” Snoop Lion’s “No Guns Allowed” and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ “Same Love.”

Kelly is the only Idol to earn a nomination this year.

The nominations for best female video went to Rihanna (“Stay”), Pink (“Just Give Me a Reason”), Demi Lovato (“Heart Attack”), Miley Cyrus (“We Can’t Stop”) and Taylor Swift (“I Knew You Were Trouble”).

Taylor’s song is also up for video of the year along with mega hit “Blurred Lines” by Robin Thicke, “Locked Out of Heaven” by Bruno Mars, “Thrift Shop” by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, and “Mirrors” by Justin Timberlake.

The VMAs will air Sunday at 9 p.m. on MTV. For a complete list of nominees, head here.
