Kirk Jay: Blind audition was ‘best worst feeling ever’

Kirk Jay calls his blind audition on The Voice “the best worst feeling ever.”

Which requires some explanation, because the 22-year-old from Bay Minette, Ala., turned all four coaches chairs with his cover of “Bless the Broken Road,” becoming just the fourth singer on Season 15 to accomplish that feat.

But Kirk says he was scared entering his blind audition, though not for the reasons one might suspect.

“Not because of being on TV or the coaches,” he told Media Hub. “I was super, super sick the night before, and I took so much medicine and all this crap. And I woke up and I didn’t feel any better.

“I immediately got super scared and thought, ‘I’m about to mess this up.’

“I got over there (to the studio) and they gave me more medicine and I started feeling a little better.”

Still, he said he was “so shocked” to see all four chairs turned when he wasn’t feeling at 100 percent.

And that, he says, the “the best worst feeling ever.”

As for his coaching decision, the frontman for Kirk Jay and Kuntry Funk says there was never any doubt in his mind.

“Blake’s a country guy. I mean he loves country music; I love country music. He definitely can help me as far as pursuing my country career and that’s what I need.”

We’ll next see Kirk during the Season 15 battle round. The Season 15 blind auditions conclude Monday.
