Just when Idol needs a spark of some type, any type, here comes Lady Gaga.

It makes absolutely no sense. Even less sense than having Shakira perform on country week.

But Idol producers have decided to pair a Lady Gaga performance with Frank Sinatra Week on next Wednesday’s results show, when the field of Idol hopefuls is trimmed to four.

Gaga will be performing “Allejandro” off her “Fame Monster” CD.

Now, some advice, Idol.

Let’s make sure her microphone works.

Let’s not make her do a duet.

Let’s especially not make her do a duet that features an odd pairing like the Shakira-Rascal Flatts nonsense.

In other words, keep Barry Manilow out of the building.

Keep Kara in her seat and out of a bikini.

Next week’s results show will also feature a performance by Harry Connick Jr.

Harry will serve as mentor for the Idols in week eight.
