American Idol certainly delivered a touching ending to Sunday night’s audition episode.

Or I should say Lauren Engle provided the touching ending with a tribute to her late husband.

Lauren, 27, lost her husband in an accident about a year ago when their vehicle was t-boned by a car that ran a red light.

“Losing him made me realize I’ve got nothing else to do but to keep doing music and to honor him,” she told American Idol.

So the 27-year-old from Redlands, Calif., did just that, singing “Compass,” an original song she wrote about their relationship.

Her brother-in-law stood off to her right, playing guitar just like her late husband Garrett used to do when they played music together.

She wound up earning a unanimous golden ticket to Hollywood.

Katy Perry said she “felt the pain” as Lauren was singing and called her performance “really beautiful.”

You can check it out below. And, if you loved the song, Lauren released it last August on an EP by the same name.
