You might not have noticed, but a former 12th-place finisher on American Idol is steadily climbing the music charts.
Leah LaBelle is doing it nine years after appearing in the show’s Season 3 finals as Paula Abdul’s wild card pick.
And she’s doing it with a playful dance tune called “Lolita.”
Back on April 13, the song had the best debut on Billboard’s dance/club play chart, checking in at number 44.
Since then, it’s been moving up at least a couple of spots every week, reaching a new high of 14 on last week’s charts.
“Lolita” is the 26-year-old’s third single since singing with Epic Records/So So Def Recordings, following “Sexify” and “What Do We Got to Lose.”
She’s been working on a debut album under the tutelage of producers Pharrell William sand Jermaine Dupri, but I haven’t seen anything about a release date.
Here’s the recently released “Lolita” video, complete with the heart-shaped glasses made famous in advertising for the 1962 film by the same name.
