Lexi Davila talks about the battle match we didn’t see

Many contestants on The Voice say one of the most difficult aspects of the battle round is learning to perform with a partner.

Lexi Davila of Team Adam said having a battle partner actually helped her.

As a result, the 17-year-old from Lorain, Ohio, said she was able to open up on stage, move around more and deliver her best performance to date.

She and Bren’nae DeBarge performed “Unwritten” by Natasha Bedingfield on Wednesday’s show. Viewers says just a snippet of the battle, which was part of a montage with two other performances.

When they finished singing, Adam declared Lexi the winner. She now advances to the knockout round. Bren’nae was eliminated.

“I really enjoyed having a partner, just because I’m a little more on the shy side, it was easier to go through things having someone by your side,” Lexi said during a Wednesday conference call with the media.

“Having someone as sweet and loving as (Bren’nae) was really fun. She wasn’t just a battle partner. She was a friend. She really encouraged me when I felt like I couldn’t do it,” Lexi added.

Lexi said she also got a key piece of advice from Ellie Goulding, guest mentor for Team Adam: That both singers had to perform like they were singing lead roles, even when they were harmonizing.
