Head to Walmart Soundcheck now and you can watch and hear Lee perform five songs from his “Live It Up” album, which hits stores Tuesday.

The tracks featured on Soundcheck include, of course, the single “Sweet Serendipity,” plus the title track, “Earth Stood Still,” “Dear Isabelle” and “Beautiful Like You.”

Of the five, I think my favorite is “Beautiful Like You.”

Lee might have been known as the rocker on Idol — something I didn’t quite understand after listening to his “Slumberland” album — but I think he’s at his best singing stripped-down ballads.

The Soundcheck episode also includes an interview during which Lee says he got to do what he wanted with his debut album.

“I think that the people at the label knew that I knew who I was as an artist. It wasn’t like I needed to find my sound or find myself. I knew exactly what I wanted to do. I wasn’t trying to figure this out or figure that out.”
