The freshly minted American Idol Top 10 will regal us with Disney tunes this week.

But the most important thing for fans to know is that this will mark the first week of live voting.

Sunday’s episode of American Idol will be simulcast coast to coast. with results announced at the end of the show.

Two singers head home this week, so you’ll want to vote for your favorite via text, the Idol app or at AmericanIdol.com during the show.

Featured this week on Idol:

* Rebel Wilson from the Pitch Perfect film series will serve as celebrity mentor.

* We’ll get a “timeless Disney song” from judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan.

* Season 16’s Top 2 Maddie Poppe and Caleb Lee Hutchinson — who are also girlfriend and boyfriend — will perform a duet.

* Lea Michele will join the Top 10 for a performance of “Part of Your World” from “The Little Mermaid.”

* And we’ll get Disney-themed performances from the Top 10.

Longtime readers of this blog already know I’m not a big fan of theme nights. I’d far rather see Idol hopefuls have their choice of any song to sing.

But at least the Disney theme is broader than some Idol tried in its early days, like forcing non-country artists to tackle a country song.

I’m also not a fan of live voting. But at least Idol is doing it on a Sunday when most viewers are free to watch if they want.
