Lee DeWyze, New Idol Music

Living it up with Lee DeWyze?

Lee DeWyze's post-Idol album, Live It Up, was released Tuesday.

Considering what I’ve been reading from critics, my expectations were pretty low when I popped Lee DeWyze’s new album into my car’s CD player this morning.

I figured by track five, I’d want to hit the eject button.

I didn’t. It made for pleasant listening.

An Idol classic? No.

But, come on, folks, this isn’t an Idol disaster of Kris Allen proportions. (In case you didn’t guess, I’m not a fan of Kris’ post-Idol debut).

What baffles me still is that first single.

Trust me, people are not going to walk down the street singing the rapid-fire chorus to “Sweet Serendipity.” They’d be out of breath before they walked a block.

On the album that song is sandwiched by “Live It Up” and “It’s Gotta Be Love,” two songs that sound like they would have made perfectly fine first singles.

Yet “Sweet Serendipity” is the single, and I’ll keep on grimacing every time Lee hits that chorus.

Oh, well, stop back this weekend for a full review of the album.

In the meantime, here’s a link to what some of the other critics are saying and a link to a blog about Lee’s Walmart Soundcheck appearance.

In the latest news of the DeWyze sort, Lee told MTV he’s “over the stress” now that the show is over and his album is out. Here’s the link to that interview.

And he appeared on Regis and Kelly Live this morning. Here’s video of him performing “Sweet Serendipity” on the show.
