Seconds after Maelyn Jarmon started singing “Fields of Gold” on The Voice, coaches’ chairs starting turning.

Forty seconds in, she’d become the first singer in Season 16 to earn a four-chair.

But Mealyn admits it took her just a bit longer to process what had happened.

“I honestly didn’t even realize they had turned right away,” Maelyn, 25, of New York, told Voice Views. “I noticed about halfway through and then thought to myself, ‘Well, I’d better end this well. They’re all lookin’ at me.”

“I was so shocked. Hearing what they had to say was so overwhelming and amazing. Having that kind of reaction from artists I respect so much was validating and also incredibly humbling.”

Maelyn opted to join Team John Legend after the new Voice coach complimented her mastery of her skill and the magic she brought to The Voice stage.

“Aside from being an EGOT, I chose John because he is a story teller,” Maelyn said. “He really lives for the music and has such a wonderful understanding of songwriting. He has also managed to be so successful and maintain a healthy home life.”

As for her song choice, Maelyn said she loves thee imagery in “Fields of Gold” and considers Sting “a wonderful writer.”

“I also love interpreting songs originally sung by male writers/singers. I was able to be creative with the arrangement of this song and show some of my artistry in it.”

Maelyn is from Texas. And at age 16, she won a Dallas-Fort Worth Idol competition, winning a first-in-line audition for American Idol in the process.

She didn’t make it through the first round.

“As upset as I was, I’m so glad I didn’t make it and I had time to find myself as a person and an artist.”

Head here for more on Maelyn. I’ll be updating that profile soon.
