You might say Marybeth Byrd made an immediate impression on The Voice.
Auditioning at age 18, she turned four chairs with her blind audition rendition of “Angel from Montgomery.”
And the young lady from Armorel, Ark., quickly proved she wasn’t a one-song wonder, following that up with a string of impressive performances as a member of Team John Legend.
In fact, Marybeth cracked the Top 20 on iTunes with her version of “Go Rest High on the Mountain” and wound up finishing Top 8 on Season 17.
She was also invited back for Tuesday’s season finale, performing “Neon Moon” with Kat Hammock, Gracee Shriver and Cali Wilson.
Here’s what Marybeth told Voice Views about her time on the show and her plans in music.
Voice Views: What do you consider your biggest takeaway / lesson learned from The Voice experience?
Marybeth: I’ve really learned how to let the hate roll off of my shoulders and to only embrace the love, as well as myself! Staying true to who you are and everything that you stand for is something that you never want to lose in the music industry, even though it’s easy to do so. I’ve found myself as a musician and have grown as a person through this once in a lifetime experience.
Voice Views: Which was your favorite Voice performance and why?
Marybeth: My favorite performance was “Burning House” by Cam because I got to work with Dane and Stephanie! They are so genuine and talented. The harmonies were so fun to play with and the song is just so beautifully written/put together.
Voice Views: What are you post-Voice plans musically? Where are you hoping this opportunity leads?
Marybeth: Right now, I’m focusing on catching up with family time and rest! I’ve missed them so much, the South, and my home in general. When I’m able to release new music and things settle down, I’m going to hit the ground running towards a musical career! I’m so excited.
Voice Views: Is there anything else you’d like to add about The Voice experience?
Marybeth: My favorite part about my incredible journey at The Voice was being able to make a second family away from my real family. A second home away from my real home. The life-long friendships that I’ve made are bonds that I wouldn’t trade for the world.
