Brielle Von Hugel, Season 11

Meet American Idol contestant Brielle Von Hugel

We didn’t get to see Brielle Von Hugel perform when she earned a golden ticket during the Savannah episode.

But she was the subject of a featured segment last year’s New Jersey auditions.

You might remember her as the 16-year-old who always wore a flower in her hair and was singing on behalf of her dad, who is also a singer and had throat cancer at the time.

She impressed the judges then with a rendition of “Endless Love” and says she thinks she’s improved since Season 10.

Brielle, of Staten Island, N.Y., says she first performed in public at age 5 at an Italian restaurant.  They asked her to sing and “I did,” Brielle recalls, saying she performed a song from Titanic.  “I was fearless, not shy at all.  I loved being in front of everyone.”

Last year, she said she thinks her raspy voice helps set her apart.  This year, she gave Idol a different answer to that question.

“I’m only 17,” she said, “but I have the determination of someone who’s been doing this for a long time.”

Here are some non-Idol performances by Brielle.

“Who Do You Think You Are”

“Inside Your Heaven”
