Meaghan Cooper’s reaction to getting her golden ticket: “It’s about time.”
The 25-year-old from San Antonio, Texas, was auditioning for Idol for the fifth time when she got a golden ticket at the Galveston try-outs.
“Five seems to be my lucky number though,” a smiling Meaghan says in her golden ticket interview.
Meaghan has performed as a rock duet with Reema Hamden called Shoc Adora. That’s them at right (Meaghan’s the blonde). On her own MySpace page, Meaghan classifies her music as fusion / pop punk and rock.
On MySpace, she also recounts a childhood battle with depression that stemmed from the separation of her parents when she was 2.
And she brings a varied background to the Idol stage. She was a Hooters calendar girl. She has modeled. She has been the spokeswoman for a furniture store in TV commercials.
She even appeared on a TV game show — “I Survived a Japanese Game Show.”
But when it comes to music, what you see is what you get, Meaghan says.
“I can see a lot of people here who are really trying to become something special and different, and more power to them,” she says.
“I don’t dress in glitter costumes or wear lots of makeup or do my hair up all crazy because this is what I’m comfortable in.”

Meanwhile, here’s Shoc Adora in action.
