Vincent Powell doesn’t mince words about why he auditioned for American Idol Season 11 — it’s his last chance.

The 28-year-old from the Houston area auditioned in Galveston and left with a golden ticket to Hollywood.

Given his age, you won’t be surprised to learn this Christian artist has a good deal of experience in music.

In fact, he has released a Christmas CD and a 12-track gospel CD.  The latter, “Convinced,” came out in February 2008 and is available on iTunes.

Powell also studied television, radio and film at Texas Southern University, where he sang with a jazz ensemble and an opera workshop program, according to his bio at showcaseyourmusic.com.

He’s now a youth minister and visual worship curator at The Community of Faith King’s Dome church in Houston.

You can listen to much of the music from Vincent’s 2008 album on his still-active MySpace page.

You can listen to the songs on his Christmas CD by following this link.

He’s come quite a way since his first performance in front of an audience, at age 9 in his church.

“That was kind of frightening,” he told Idol in his golden ticket interview.  “But my mother and brother are singers, so it was in the genes.”

Here are a couple of cover performance by Vincent.

“Suga Pie Honey Bunch”

“You’re the One”
