His audition: Bryan Bautista, 23, of Brooklyn, N.Y., auditioned with “The Hills” by The Weeknd. His impressive range and vocals got Christina Augilera to turn as soon as he launched into the chorus. Blake Shelton eventually turned around as well. Christina says she recognized his talent from the word “go.” Bryan decided to join Team Christina.
His background: He’s the usher at the Barclays Center who attracted national attention after a video of him singing the national anthem went viral. He wound up auditioning for Season 9 of The Voice, but failed to turn a chair with his cover of “Locked Out of Heaven.” “I didn’t feel like I gave them 100 percent last time,” Byran says. “I was kind of nervous.” It was a humbling experience, but his mother was among those who encouraged him to audition again. So Bryan quit his job, started taking vocal lessons for the first time and lived off his savings while getting gigs whenever he could.
