His impressive range and vocals got Christina Augilera to turn as soon as he launched into the chorus. Blake Shelton eventually turned around as well. Christina says she recognized his talent from the word “go.” Bryan decided to join Team Christina.

His background: He’s the usher at the Barclays Center who attracted national attention after a video of him singing the national anthem went viral. He wound up auditioning for Season 9 of The Voice, but failed to turn a chair with his cover of “Locked Out of Heaven.” “I didn’t feel like I gave them 100 percent last time,” Byran says. “I was kind of nervous.” It was a humbling experience, but his mother was among those who encouraged him to audition again. So Bryan quit his job, started taking vocal lessons for the first time and lived off his savings while getting gigs whenever he could.

What the show didn’t show:

  • Bryan has been singing most of his life, according to the Barclays Center website. He’s a 2010 graduate of the Brooklyn Technical School where his vocal ability made him a talent show winner.
  • Bryan’s acclaimed performance of the national anthem came before the Brooklyn Nets’ final home game in April of 2014 and drew a standing ovation from the crowd.
  • He was apparently invited back to sing the anthem again during a playoff game against the Miami Heat. You can watch that performance here.
  • Bryan had been working at the Barclays Center since it opened in 2012, got to watch stars perform and said that helped fuel his passion for music.
  • You can check out some of Bryan’s music on this Soundcloud page.
  • During a conference call with the media, he said that in hindsight, he’s sort of glad he didn’t turn a chair in Season 9 because the experience was humbling and “just pushed me that much more and it kind of sparked the fire.”
  • He added that landing on a team in Season 10 “just made me realize that, you know, hard work and dedication will always persevere no matter what situation you’re in, so you’ve got to learn to roll with the punches and eventually you’ll succeed.”
  • On iTunes: Just his performance from The Voice
