(NBC Photo)Her audition: Caroline Burns, 16, of Hollis, N.H., auditioned with Carole King’s “So Far Away.” Her pleasant and youthful tone enticed a chair turn from Adam Levine before she even hit the chorus. On the last note, Blake Shelton turned as well. Adam praised how she improved by “leaps and bounds” since an earlier attempt at the show. Caroline opted to join Team Adam.

Her background: Just 15 at the time, Caroline auditioned for Season 9, singing “A Thousand Years,” but failed to turn a chair. Pharrell Williams encouraged her to try again, and she returned to The Voice nearly a year older and an inch taller — she’s proud to have reached 5 feet tall. Since her first audition, she reunited with her band — 4:30 to 5 — to hone her skills, singing mostly classic rock. She also dresses up as a princess or fairy for a business that puts on parties for young children, another endeavor that sometimes allows her to sing. Her dad plays guitar and sings and taught her how to play as well.

What the show didn’t show:

  • Caroline says she grew up listening to county, pop and tunes from Broadway musicals. She’d sit at the piano, figure out how to play the songs, then sing along. She recorded her first song — Coldplay’s “Viva La Vida” at age 7.
  • Her first performance came at age 9 when she performed Kelly Clarkson’s “Breakaway” at a kid’s karaoke event. “The crowd loved it and I caught the bug for performing,” she says.
  • Later that same year, she landed a role in “Annie” with the Palace Theater,a professional acting troupe from New York. The next year, she appeared in “Annie” again, this time in the lead role.
  • Her list of favorite artists include Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Hanson and, yep, Maroon 5. In fact, during her Season 9 pre-audition interview, Caroline said she hoped to convince her band to add a Maroon 5 song to its repertoire because she was such a big fan.
  • At age 13, Caroline was one of three winners of a singing competition judged by former Voice contestant James Massone and former American Idol finalist Erika Van Pelt. The prize: An opportunity to sing the national anthem before a minor league baseball game.
  • In the past two years, her YouTube channel has grown from about 2,000 subscribers to more than 14,500.
  • On iTunes: Just her performance from The Voice.
