His audition: Joe Vivona 27, of Verona, N.J., auditioned with John Mayer’s “Dreaming with a Broken Heart.” His raspy vocals earned chair turns from Blake Shelton and Adam Levine before he hit the chorus. At the very end, Pharrell Williams turned as well. Joe joined Team Pharrell, explaining he’s his grandfather’s favorite about The Voice coaches.
His background: Joe works for his family’s business, Amusements of America, which he says is the world’s largest traveling amusement park. That business was started by his great-grandfather and grandfather back in 1939; today Joe’s dad runs the business. But Joe also went to school in New York for audio engineers. He says that’s where he started recording himself singing and caught the performing bug. He sometimes performs at fairs, but admits that he still gets anxious and nervous because of his inexperience. He’s hoping a coach from The Voice could help him conquer those nerves. He describes himself as a pop-rock singer.
