Here’s more on Calvin:
* Both of his parents are pastors – currently at Christ The Healer Church in Clarksville, Tenn. – and Calvin grew up singing in church. In fact, he told The Voice he started singing when he was just 3.
* When he was 13, he landed a solo in a school play and decided he wanted to pursue music.
* He began listening to secular music and eventually fell in love with singer-songwriter type music, according to his bio on The Voice website.
* He attended Austin Peay State University and started writing music with other artists, but didn’t feel like the local music scene was right for him.
* That prompted a move to the Raleigh-Durham, N.C., area for a fresh start. He told The Voice he sees the show as a chance to become a secular singer.
* That said, he hadn’t done much in that regard performance wise prior to The Voice. “Before the show, I’ve only performed outside of a church setting one time, actually,” he told Voice Views. “So I still have a lot of learning to do as far as stage presence, etc. But I’ve performed SO much in the church setting. From a young boy until now.”
* He describes his sound “as the perfect mix between John Mayer, Jon Bellion, and John Legend. Triple threat.”
* Calvin hasn’t released original music yet, but says it’s coming. “In the writing room still as well. I plan on releasing (music) after the show.”
