Carter Rubin of Long Island, New York, auditioned for The Voice Season 19

His audition: Carter Rubin, 14, of Long Island, N.Y., auditioned with “Before You Go” by Lewis Capaldi. John turned early in the performance. Gwen turned at the midway mark. John said Carter sounded polished and showed more control than would be expected from someone his age. Gwen pledged to help him with stage presence and called his voice beautiful. Carter opted to join Team Gwen.

Here more about Carter:

* He’s turned 15 since his audition and is a sophomore at Shoreham-Wading River High School, where he performs with the choir and in drama productions.

* He credits his musical ability to his grandfather, Ric Mango. At one point, Mango was an unofficial member of the 1960s group Jay and the Americans of “This Magic Moment” fame. He also fronted his own band.

* Carter’s bio piece on The Voice stressed his friendship with his older brother Jack, who was
diagnosed with autism at age 2.

* Carter’s mom is founder and president of an autism advocacy group called Families in Arms, which surprises families with trips to amusement parks.

* According to Carter’s bio on The Voice website, he and brother Jack perform together at foundation events.

* Carter auditioned for America’s Got Talent when he was a pre-teen, but failed to make the show.

* And Carter told Newsday that Gwen’s promise to be a mothering figure helped convince him to
join her team.

* “It was a really tough decision,” Carter told the site. “I chose Gwen because she talked about being a motherly figure and wanting to help me with my stage presence, my style, all the things I really want to work on as a performer.”
