Back around Christmas of 2015, when Claire Ryann Crosby was just 3, Dave made a video of her singing “Part of Your World” from The Little Mermaid.
You might say it went viral.
Young Claire wound up performing the song on The Ellen Show. In fact, she and dad have been invited back on multiple occasions. Claire was featured on an episode of Little Big Shots, hosted by Steve Harvey. She’ll even appear in an upcoming film called “The Little Mermaid;” it also features Shirley MacLaine.
Her Claire and the Crosbys YouTube channel now has nearly 700,000 subscribers. And that original video has been viewed nearly 14 million times.
Did I mention that Dave sings too?
In fact, he released a 12-track album called “Just So You Know” back in 2011, before Claire was born. Head to his YouTube page and you’ll find about a dozen covers of popular songs. Then, earlier this year, he released a five-track alternative/indie rock EP called “Shapeshifting Monster.”
“I love writing music,” he says in a YouTube video about that project. “That’s my favorite thing to do. But I kind of got into this YouTube model that I saw other YouTubers doing where they cover a bunch of songs to build a subscriber base and then they record music to release to that base.”
“Around July 2015, I decided I was done with that. I wanted to go back and write music.”
He was still working on that new EP when Claire became a YouTube sensation, distracting him from his own music for a while.
But he eventually completed and released the EP that he calls “totally different from anything I’ve done before.” I’ve embedded a couple of tracks below. “Words” is particularly impressive.
In a 2016 interview with Disney Examiner, Dave called himself a businessman by day and a musician by night. He’s also produced music for commercials.
He and his wife Ashley also have a son, Carson. And judging from Dave’s Instagram page, child number three is on the way.
