His blind audition: Davison, 23, of Little Rock, Ark., opened the second blind audition episode with a performance of “To Love Somebody” by the Bee Gees. Adam Levine and Blake Shelton turned quickly. Adam said Davison could win the show. Davison opted to join Team Adam.

His background: Growing up, Davison said he was always the kid eager to sing the national anthem. Now he’s a worship leader in his church, sings at church and community events and says his mom comes to every performance. He also says he’s something of a local fashionista. As for his music, he describes it as goapel “with a little bit of soul, a little of R&B and a little bit of grit.”

What the show didn’t show:

* His stage name is shortened from Lavelle Davison and family members tell him that even when he was 10 months old, he’d start singing if he was handed a comb or brush or anything he could pretend was a microphone.

* Levelle entered a talent show at Henderson Middle School when he was in sixth grade and said he knew then that he’d pursue something involving singing in the future.

* By the time he was in 10th grade, he’d formed his own gospel group that performed around the Little Rock area.

* Prior to The Voice, he’d been singing background for local artists. He performed his first show as a headline solo artist last September.

* His full-time job, pre-Voice, was as a supervisor at a superstore.

* Davison says he hasn’t released any music yet, but has music ready for when that time comes. “I’m ready to go.” He describes it as “R&B / soul type music. I’m all about making music people can connect with, that people can feel. I like to make people get those goosebumps. That’s my goal in life: for my music to touch people.”

* He said he decided to go by just his last name as a performer “because my biological father hasn’t been in my life since I was 3 years old. I don’t really know any of my family, last name Davison. I decided to go with Davison so I could put a put a buzz out there. I know it’s things like this that will bring your family out so that I would then be with my family and get to know who they are. Possibly someone could even find my dad.”

On picking Adam: “I picked Adam because I feel like we connected. Adam is a versatile artist; you can place him in any genre of music, pop, soul, country, R&B. That’s the type of artist I would like to be. Because he represented so many qualities that I saw in myself, I decided I wanted to go with Adam.”
