Devan Blake Jones of The Voice Season 20

Devan Blake Jones is among the singers to announce they auditioned for Season 20 of The Voice.

Here’s more about Devan.

* He’s not a newcomer to singing competitions, having earned a golden ticket on American Idol Season 11 at age 26 and returning to do so again in Season 12 (2013).

* And though Devan failed to make the voting rounds, he enjoyed some success on the show, advancing to the Top 60 the first time and to the Top 28 males on his second try.

* Born in California but raised in Colorado, Devan admitted to being upset after his second run on Idol. But in a 2014 interview with WestWord.com, he said he turned that anger into creativity. The result was a mixtape called “Let’s Drink; Let’s Smoke.”

* Devan has since opened shows for Ty Dollar $ign, Alice Russell and Nelly.

* His Facebook bio talks about singles called “Graffiti” and “Breaking the Mold.” Neither appear to be available on steaming sites, but you can check out the former by following the provided link.

* Devan started singing in church at age 5 or 6, but says he didn’t start taking music seriously until he was in ninth grade. He hails from a family of singers.

* He also said he was raised on oldies, jazz and gospel music and learned to meld those influences into his original music.

* Pre-Idol he was lead vocalist for a 12-piece Afrobeat band called Atomga Groove Alliance.

Editor’s note: Season 20 of The Voice is scheduled to kick off Monday, March 1 on NBC.
