His audition: Eli Zamora, 25, of El Paso, Texas, performed “Ya Lo Se Que Te Tu Vas” by Juan Gabriel. Kelly turned midway through the performance. And despite an emotional performance from Eli, she was the only coach to turn. Kelly’s reaction: “You are so great. So much passion. I’m fighting tears.” With only one chair turn, Eli automatically became a member of Team Kelly.

* Eli competed on Season 8 of La Voz, Mexico’s version of The Voice, in the spring of 2019.

* He turned three of four coaches’ chairs with his cover of “Y como es el?” during the blind auditions.

* He advanced through two rounds of the show before being eliminated during a round in which each La Voz coach selects three singers to advance to the live shows.

* During the battle round, he performed “It’s a Man’s World” in English and prevailed in a duet with Lucas Martin. You can check it out below.

* Eli was 24 at the time of his audition, was identified as being from El Paso, but had also performed in L.A. and Las Vegas.

* In an interview with El Diario de Juárez, Eli said he spent the first eight years of his life living in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico, then moved to El Paso, where he finished high school.

* “Music was always present in my family. My dad was a Christian musician and we grew up singing in church. I always liked it, but I never thought it was what I was going to dedicate myself to,” he told the site.

* At the time he said he was performing at Christian events in the U.S. and Mexico and singing at weddings and other events.

* Most of the covers posted to Eli’a YouTube channel are in Spanish, but you can check out two other English covers — a duet of Billie Eilish’s “Everything I Wanted” and a cover of Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You.”
