Her audition: Hailey Wright, 19, Redwater, Texas, performed “Before the Next Teardrop Falls” by Freddy Fender. Her opening prompted chair turns from Michael Buble and Kelsea Ballerini. Wow, haven’t heard this song in years and years. And Hailey’s delivering a nice version of it. Strong ending too. John liked the yodel in her voice and said her vocals show a lot of maturity for her age. Kelsea called her voice undeniably country. Michael noted he’s done duets with Willie Nelson and Dolly Parton. Hailey opted to join Team Kelsea.

Here’s more about Hailey.

* She’s a 20-year-old singer-songwriter from Redwater, Texas, and does most of her performing in the Texarkana area.

* And this won’t be her first time auditioning for a singing show. In 2021, at age 16, she got to audition in front of American Idol judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie.

* She didn’t receive a golden ticket and her audition didn’t air in Season 20, but Hailey called herself “blessed” to have made it as far as she did. She called singing for the judges “the greatest part of the experience.”

* In a 2022 interview with Four States Living, Hailey said she’s always loved music, but her focus was more on sports, specifically softball, growing up.

* That’s until she broke her leg sliding into second base. She picked up a pawn store guitar she’d received one Christmas and said “things took off from there.”

* The heading to her Instagram page includes the praise: “Chahta sia hoke!” That translates to: “I am Choctaw.”

* In 2020, while researching her ancestry, Hailey learned that her great-grandmother was a full blood Choctaw Native American.

* She’s since taught herself to speak and sing in the Choctaw language.

* In a 2023 Faces of Texarkana profile, Hailey says one of her goals is performing at the Grand Ole Opry.
