Hannah on leaving the show: “I still have my voice.”
Her background: Hannah says she discovered her love of R&B/soul music when she was about 11 and listening to the likes of Etta James, Aretha Franklin and BB King. That makes it difficult, where the focus is on country music. Then again, Hannah says she feels like she’s been different “my whole life.” She had a learning disability growing up, but says music helped her focus. She also calls herself the “black sheep” of her family because she didn’t go to college. Nevertheless, Hannah says her parents have been supportive.
What the show didn’t show:
* According to her Voice bio, she moved to Nashville at the urging of a producer in 2014. The relationship didn’t flourish, however, because he wanted her to record country music and she wanted to pursue a soul/R&B sound.
* She doesn’t appear to have released music, but she has five songs you can check out on her website.
* Head to soundclooud.com and you can also check out an original called “Define Me,” which she calls one of her favorites among the songs she’s written.
* Her praise of Alicia on the show is repeated on her Facebook page, where Hannah calls The Voice coach her “idol” above a Facebook cover of “If I Ain’t Got You.” Her covers on YouTube also includes Alicia’s “Holy War.”
* In a 2016 interview, she describes Tori Kelly as another inspiration and says she used to watch Tori’s YouTube videos over and over to brush up her own vocal skills.
* On her website, she writes that “My dream is to help people overcome insecurities and broadens their horizons through music.”
* Remember that “soulful” description, check out Hannah’s cover of Jimi Hendrix’s “Red House” below.
