I just knew we’d be introduced to this guy on tonight’s episode of Idol. Apparently, he’s quite the character.
If you can trust his MySpace bio, this guy from Harlem, N.Y., learned his first Nirvana song on guitar at age 12 and — due to the overwhelming response from young girls — decided to learn more.
Or was a lack of sports skill his inspiration?
His MySpace also says this: “Caleb Hawley has always wanted to be a professional baseball player. However, life did not grant him big muscles and outstanding eye contact. Instead, he was dealt the gift of fast fingers and massive vocal cords. After sadly realizing his circumstances, he set off to be a musician.”
Anyway, we’re clearly not dealing with a novice in Caleb. He’s apparently released two independent albums “We All Got Problems” and “Steps.”
One of the songs on the former is named “Fat, Married and Helpless.” The guy sort of reminds me of a talented former Jewel sidekick, Steve Pfoltz.
Anyway, you can head to his MySpace to check out lots of that music. He classifies it as pop / folk / soul.
Or you can check out these. Keep watching. In the final video, he covers “Poker Face,” blond wig and all.
Singing “Blind”
“My Own Two Feet”
And, now, “Poker Face”

Caleb is a great musician. It is so hard for talented musicians to get noticed these days. Nice write up.
