Meet Hollywood bound David Leathers Jr.

6

Yep, you heard right.

David Leathers Jr. competed against Scotty McCreery in a Rip the Hallways competition for promising young vocalists in North Carolina a couple of years back.

Both made the finals, but David defeated the Season 10 Idol champ.

Based on what I was able to dig up on David, he also placed in the top 20 out of more than 350 contestants in a North Carolina singing competition sponsored by FOX50 at one point.

He’s from Fayetteville, N.C., and he’s 17, but looks much younger, as Jennifer Lopez pointed out Wednesday night.

Which means he might be exactly what Idol is looking for in Season 11.  Besides, he was the very first contestant we were introduced to.

He also considers himself something of a lady killer, thanks to his fine voice. In fact, he says his nickname is “Mr. Steal the Girl.”

Here are two samples of his pre-Idol music. You can find more on his YouTube channel.
