Idol returns to ABC on Sunday, Feb. 18 with the coaching trio of Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan back intact.
Here’s more about Jayna Elise:
* She’ll be one of the singers returning to Idol after a promising run on Season 21.
* From Washington, D.C., Jayna was 22 when she wowed the judges with a performance of “Who Wants to Live Forever” by Queen at last year’s auditions. Lionel praised her stage presence.
* And Jayna should have earned a gold star for drama defusion during the Hollywood Week duets. She and partner Summer Joy welcomed Adin Boyer into their group when he had an anxiety attack because he couldn’t find a partner. She then stepped up to perform with Fire Wilmore when her partner dropped out at the last minute.
* Jayna made it to the Top 55 showstoppers round. But Idol didn’t air her performance and she didn’t make the Top 26.
* Jayne arrived on the Idol stage with singing show experience. At age 14 back in 2016, Jayna was featured on America’s Got Talent Season 11.
* Her performance of Andra Day’s “Rise Up” earned a golden buzzer from judge and former One Direction member Louis Tomlinson. Versions of that performance have been viewed more than 4 million times on YouTube.
* Jayna has released music as Jayna Elise and has four solo singles available and a duet with Kosta Lois on streaming sites.
* Among her latest releases is “Open Fire,” released late last June. You can check it out below. It’s a pop song with a nice rock edge.
* Jayna also released a six-minute Christian single called “Sooner Than Right Now” earlier this month in conjunction with the Compton Kidz Club.
* She grew up in the Baltimore-Washington metro area and attended the Duke Ellington School of the Arts High School, crediting that experience for helping develop her artistry. She has since moved to Los Angeles.
