Josiah Dyer of American Idol Season 24

Josiah Dyer is among the artists who have announced that they auditioned for Season 24 of American Idol.

Idol returns to ABC on Monday, Jan. 26 with the judging trio of Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie and Carrie Underwood.

Here’s more about Josiah:

* He’s a 20-year-old country singer-songwriter based in Charleston, Maine.

* Josiah released his first two songs — “Tried and True” and “When the Tears Roll Down” — to streaming sites in May. Remember how Season 10 champ Scotty McCreery surprised with his strong, deep voice? Anyone listening to Josiah is likely to have the same reaction. Wow, talk about a rich voice.

* He’s also released an 11-song album called “Time Won’t Last Forever.” It includes the aforementioned single and nine more songs.

* The album and is available through Bandcamp. Check out the music video for the title track below.

* In an end-of-year video message to fans, Josiah admits that in January 2025, “I was considering not doing this music thing.”

* Then the personable young man breaks into a smile and says, “Man, I’m glad I did” before holding up a page-long list of musical accomplishments from the past 12 monts, including multiple appearances at fairs, the Idol audition and two trips to Tennessee.

* Josiah grew up in a musical family. His father and brother also play guitar and often accompany him on stage.

* In fact, he began learning to play the guitar at age 11, taught by his older brother. Josiah told a local TV station he began singing around age 14.

* “The thing was, I didn’t learn the guitar for the reasons that my brother did,” he told WABI. “I learned it because I loved the sound. He learned it to get girls,” he added, jokingly.

* In an interview with WMTW, Maine’s ABC station, Josiah described his music as “’70s and ’90s country music” with “a side of Elvis.” Other major influences include Josh Turner and Willie Nelson.
