The Voice returns to NBC on Monday, Sept. 20. Here’s more about Kaitlyn.
* She’s a 21-year-old, New York based singer-songwriter who graduated from Connetquot High School in 2018.
* She’s now a professional music major at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, and she’s already released music.
* That comes in the form of eight singles in the past two years. Two of those — “FOMO” and “I Miss You” — each have more than 100,000 streams on Spotify.
* She’s released two singles so far in 2021, “Can’t Have It Your Way” in April and “Pity Party” in May.
* The former is about someone trying to steal her boyfriend. Says Kaitlyn: “I think it shows a different side of me. I’m a very lighthearted person but I have a sassy side that I don’t feel like I showcase in my music.”
* As for “Pity Party,” you can check it out below. Says Kaitlyn: “People will do you wrong and blame you for it. I used to be the kind of person to let things like that slide. I found myself constantly apologizing for things other people di to me. …. ‘Pity Party’ is for anyone who’s had that kind of experience. We live and we learn.”
* In an interview with Jejune Magazine, Kaitlyn says she grew up in a musical household and has loved music for as long as she can remember.
* She caught the songwriting bug when she would write birthday jingles for friends. “I was trying to use my music to help them navigate through life, whether it be about boys or other situations that were going on around us…” Kaitlyn said.
* Kaitlyn won a “Write Your Legacy” contest established by Reebok and Khalid. Contestants had to make a video featuring their vocal skills and explaining what they’d like their legacy to be.
* Her first single came out after the death of George Floyd and she used it to help raise more than $700 for the Equal Justice Initiative, according to the Jejune interview.
* As for her music, Kaitlyn describes it this way in that interview: “I would say I fit into the bubble gum pop world. I love bright colors and happy vibes and that’s what I try to incorporate in my songs.”
* As for those eight singles, Kaitlyn wrote every one. “I’ve been writing since I was a freshman in high school and I haven’t stopped since,” she told Voice Views. “All of my songs are written by me and only me which is something I take a lot of pride in. I have a lot of new music coming soon that I’m super excited to share!”
