Season 12

Meet Kevin Harris of American Idol

2

We didn’t get to see much of Kevin Harris’ audition during the San Antonio episode of American Idol.

But apparently the highlight was his exit from the audition room.

Kevin Harris of American Idol. (FOX Photo)He told FOX29 in San Antonio that he did a chest dive across the floor, ripping his American Idol ID number right off his chest.

“If it was home plate, I would have been safe,” he proclaimed. “But, hey, that’s how I felt.”

The 28-year-old from Montgomery, Ala., now lives in San Antonio and apparently works as a background singer.

In his Road to Hollywod video, he said he’s done background vocals on country, pop, R&B and even hip-hop albums. That’s in addition to doing what he calls Motown “tribute recordings.”

“I think versatility will keep me ahead of a lot of artists who are stuck in one genre,” he said of his chances on Idol.

He told the folks at FOX29 he’s mostly an R&B singer.

“I love Motown,” he added. “That’s what I was raised with. Motown is where my heart is.”

And Kevin came from a musical family. Both of his parents sing, so does his sister and he has a brother who’s a singer-songwriter, he told Idol.

Oh, and you know how Nicki Minaj has been handing out nicknames on Idol?

Kevin got a nickname courtesy of Randy Jackson: “Butter.” Because he sing as smooth as …

“Sorry, mom,” he said in his FOX29 interview. “It’s no longer Kevin. It’s Butter.”

Unfortunately, I can’t find any video of “Butter” Harris performing. If anyone knows of any, point me in the right direction and I’ll be glad to add them.
