Maddie Poppe will be a contestant on the new season of American Idol.

Maddie Poppe is among contestants who have announced on social media that they auditioned for ABC’s new version of American Idol.

Idol premieres March 11 with Katy Perry, Lionel Ritchie and Luke Bryan as the judges who determine which singers make it to Hollywood and which don’t.

Here’s more about Maddie Poppe.

She’s a 20-year-old singer-songwriter from Clarksville, Iowa, and this isn’t her first go-round with a singing competition.

She auditioned before The Voice judges in the Season 10 premiere back in 2016, but failed to make the show.

During her bio package on The Voice, Maddie said she caught the music bug in sixth grade when her sister talked her into performing a duet.

Later in 2016, Maddie released her debut project, a seven-track album called “Songs from the Basement.” You can check out all the songs on her website.

It’s an album with a slightly quirky singer-songwriter vibe on which Maddie tackles the pressures of conformity in the opening “I Don’t Care to Belong” and young love in the excellent “You Stole My Heart.”

In December, she released a music video for her song “I Like You.” You can check it out below.

According to her website, she plays guitar, ukulele and keyboards and has been playing shows locally for three years.
