Marissa Luna of American Idol Season 24
Idol returned to ABC on Monday, Jan. 26 with the judging trio of Luke Bryan, Carrie Underwood and Lionel Richie. Auditions continue each Monday through most of February.
Here’s more about Marissa:
* She’s a 22-year-old singer-songwriter from Birmingham, Ala., now based in Nashville.
* And she’s released a good bit of music. Her most recent release is a cover of “The Christmas Song,” which came out last month. She released a holiday original called “Christmas Eve Alone” with Robert Abernathy in 2023.
* And in her teens, she released an acoustic cover of Ariana Grande’s “One Last Time” that’s been streamed nearly 900,000 times on Spotify.
* While she started out singing pop music, she now classifies herself as a country artist and has been working on a debut country EP.
* In 2023, she performed at the Alabama Music Hall of Fame induction ceremony for songwriter Peanutt Montgomery. She sang Tanya Tucker’s first hit song, “What’s Your Mamma’s Name,” one of many country hits written by Montgomery.
* She’s also opened for Yolanda Adams and Maddie & Tae.
* Marissa attended the University of Alabama and has won the titles of Miss University of Alabama (2023) and Miss Nashville (2024). And she founded a non-profit called More than Meets the Eye to raise awareness of hidden disabilities, saying she’s had to overcome three of those herself.
* In web bios, Marissa says she became fascinated with the stage at a young age, participating in musical theater growing up. She wrote and recorded her first song when she was just 13.
* Along the way, she’s developed a substantial following — 122,000 followers on Instagram and 50,000 on TikTok.
